Begna Fufa Dugassa, Ph.D., is a public health professional specializing in knowledge synthesis in public health. He holds two Master of Science degrees: one from Moscow Veterinary Academy in Animal Nutrition and another in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Toronto. He has furthered his education with a Master of Education in Health Professional Education and a Ph.D. in Public Health, focusing on knowledge construction, production, and synthesis at the same university. He has also earned a postgraduate public health leadership certificate from the University of Regina, along with several other professional development certificates. Dr. Dugassa has held various positions within the Oromo Studies Association (OSA), including two terms as president.

He engages in independent and collaborative research, publishing over three dozen articles and two books. His research interests—from human rights and public health to climate change and public health leadership—have significantly contributed to the field.

A significant influence on his early thinking was his grandmother, Ba’isse Biqilee. He often draws inspiration from her advice: “Do not transgress against others, and never let others transgress against you. ” This wisdom is the foundation of his professional work, guiding his research and advocacy for equity, diversity, and sustainability in public health.
