The Oromo Studies Association launched its peer-reviewed scholarly publication, the Journal of Oromo Studies (JOS) in 1993. The Journal features articles pertaining to all areas of Oromo studies related to Oromo people indigenous to NE Africa and to the Oromo Diaspora worldwide. Its interdisciplinary scope offers readers a comprehensive view of the socioeconomic, political and cultural conditions of the Oromo people.

Until 2025, The Journal of Oromo Studies was published annually and bi-annually and made available to OSA members and through individual and institutional subscription.

Since 2025 it is published in Open Source format, available electronically and without cost to the reader. Some hard copy volumes of JOS are still available at discount to OSA members or can be purchased at OSA annual conferences. OSA is proud to share worldwide with scholars, students, researchers, teachers, and with the general public this digitized archive of all prior publications of JOS, which includes Volume 1 through Volume 29.

Note: The Journal invites well-researched submissions for review, including manuscripts related to the history, economy, culture, health, education, politics and law of the Oromo, as well as studies in the disciplines of biological and bio medical sciences, physical sciences and social welfare pertaining to the Oromo.
